Zaugg, Marinescu secure Interwetten seats

Interwetten Racing has confirmed that Adrian Zaugg and Mihai Marinescu will race for them in this season's World Series by Renault, which kicks off in Spain this weekend.

The Austrian concern was the only remaining team to have not signed a driver prior to the opening round at the Circuit de Catalunya, but have since revealed that former GP2 driver Zaugg and Formula BMW graduate Marinescu will make up their line-up.

Zaugg's acquisition comes as a surprise having spent much of the last year on the sidelines, save for his stint with South Africa in A1 GP, while he hasn't been apparent in any of the pre-season tests for Interwetten.

A former member of Red Bull driver programme, Zaugg competed in six World Series by Renault races for Carlin Motorsport in 2006, an impressive double podium in only his second event at Donington Park getting him fast-tracked to a GP2 ride with Arden International. However, after being dropped at the end of the 2007 season, Zaugg has retained a fairly low profile until now.

Romanian racer Marinescu, meanwhile, gets the nod for the second seat after a decent showing with the team during testing in Barcelona last month. Moving up from the Formula BMW Europe Championship, Marinescu is also a former Formula Renault Eurocup front runner.

Interwetten Racing, who also tested Franck Perera and Tobias Hegewald recently, finished seventh in the standings last season with the Mexican pair of Salvador Duran and Pablo Sanchez Lopez.
