Lancaster eager to end with a win

Jon Lancaster looks to take a win in the final rounds of the World Series by Renault in Spain
After a five-week break, Jon Lancaster will hope to bring his 2009 World Series by Renault campaign to a winning close in the final rounds of the season at the Motorland Aragon circuit in Spain.

The 20-year-old has emerged as one of the stars of the season despite being a late entry into the championship, and picked up a maiden win in the Algarve in what was only his fourth race meeting in the series.

Having shown himself to be one of the quickest drivers on track, Lancaster will now hope to take at least one victory in the final rounds of the season to make up for the disappointment of losing a second place finish last time out at the Nurburgring after being handed a post-race penalty.

Lancaster made use of his break between the final races of the season to take part in the GP2 test session at Jerez, but he insisted that he wasn't looking beyond this weekend's finale and will evaluate his future plans once the season is complete.

“The long break offered the opportunity for a test in GP2 which I did at Jerez and was very happy with the experience,” he said. “There are lots of options on the table for next year, however the focus now is on this weekend and ending the year with victory.

“I've been quickest at some point over the weekend in every race and but for some mechanical reliability issues and some harsh decisions in the races, I'm certain I could have had more than one win this year.

“The Motorland Aragón track is new to all of us so one would expect it would be a fairly even fight. I've looked at the track and it looks quite technical with some long straights and fast corners. I learn new tracks quite quickly, Portimao was new to everyone and I won there so hopefully I can repeat that performance this weekend and end it with a win.

“The most important thing this weekend will be the two sessions on Friday where we need to be a lot more aggressive in the set-up of the car. Hopefully it will be good right from the start but if it's not, we won't waste time changing little things, we need to push hard right from the start to get the optimum performance in qualifying.”
