Nelson Panciatici will not race in Superleague Formula by Sonangol this year as he concentrates on his maiden season in the World Series by Renault.
The 21-year old represented Olympique Lyonnais in Superleague Formula in 2009, but informed the French club in January that, having joined Junior Lotus Racing, he would be focusing on his Renault campaign.
While Panciatici revealed would have liked to have continued in the football-themed series, he admitted that its expansion to twelve rounds, several of which clash with the nine-round World Series by Renault calendar, meant it just wasn't possible to dovetail his campaigns.
“I loved racing in Superleague Formula last year and it was an honour for me to represent Olympique Lyonnais,” Panciatici admitted, “However, there are four date clashes between the two series this year and I really want to concentrate on having a successful season in Renault.
“I'd like to thank Lyon President Jean-Michel Aulas and everyone at the club for their trust, without forgetting the organisers of Superleague Formula and the Barazi-Epsilon team. I hope to have the opportunity to work with Olympique Lyonnais again in the future and I wish them the very best of luck both on track and on the pitch in 2010.”
Panciatici has made a strong start to his World Series by Renault season during the first official test days in Barcelona and Jerez. His pace during each session has placed him towards the top of the timesheets while he also set the fastest time during the first day in Barcelona. The first round of the championship takes places at Motorland, Spain, on 18 April.
