Fortec has confirmed the signing of Sauber F1 test driver Sergey Sirotkin for the 2014 Formula Renault 3.5 season.
The Russian secured a brace of podium finishes last year in his debut season in the series with ISR and took ninth place in the championship standings before impressing during two days of running with Fortec in the end of season test that took place at the Motorland Aragon circuit in Spain.
Sirotkin will line up alongside Oliver Rowland in the Fortec line-up, with the Briton having been confirmed in his drive last month.
“Let me firstly thanks all in Fortec for the great opportunity they offered to me,” Sirotkin said. “During the test run together in Spain, I had an immediate great feeling with all the people there. It was a difficult December, with many important decision for my career; now that the full program have been finalised, I am finally free to dedicate all my energies to the coming season.”
Fortec team manager Jamie Dye said he was thrilled to have Sirotkin onboard.
“We're very happy that Sergey is joining us for the 2014 season,” he said. “He's been really impressive so far in testing and has the right attitude and attention to detail you need to succeed. Sergey is still young and very fast – he's one to watch and we are really happy to have him as part of the team.”
