Team Lotus has announced the signing of Marlon Stockinger and Matthieu Vaxivière for the 2014 Formula Renault 3.5 season.
Stockinger's second consecutive season with Lotus will provide consistency following the departure of three-time race winner, Marco Sorensen. The Filipino driver finished eighteenth in the overall championship standings during his first FR3.5 outing last year.
The twenty-two-year-old was quick to note the importance of team continuity on his title charge.
“It is really great and positive to be back with Lotus and to prepare together for the upcoming season”, he said. “I was a rookie last year so I made a few mistakes but now I am more experienced and I will try to make the most out of it”, he concluded.
Frenchman, Matthieu Vaxivière will step up from Formula Renault 2.0 Eurocup to replace Sorensen at Team Lotus. The nineteen-year-old's two victories in 2013 and his testing campaign in November proved to be enough to gain his 2014 drive.
Vaxivière spoke of his experience in testing, at the helm of both the Lotus and Pons Racing models, and his hopes for his rookie season.
“I am really happy that I was given such a great chance to be a part of this team”, he explained. “I tried out the Formula Renault 3.5 car already last year and I liked the car very much. My goal for the upcoming season is to be best rookie”, he concluded.
Stockinger's signing reaffirms his affiliation with Lotus F1 Junior Team; he remains the only Filipino driver to take to the helm of a Formula 1 model. Vaxivière also joins the team's development programme for 2014.
Team Lotus will hope their new driver pairing is enough to help them improve on their seventh place finish in the constructor's championship last year. The Prague-based outfit, who are the sixth team to complete their driver line-up, will run the Lotus F1 Team livery for a third consecutive season.
