Fortec Motorsport's Sergey Sirotkin was atop the time sheets as the chequered flag waved on the first Formula Renault 3.5 testing session of 2014.
Zoel Amberg, who recently announced a move to AV Formula, was the only man to challenge the Sauber Test Driver for the fastest lap; the Swiss driver was just two tenths-of-a-second behind the Russian.
Jazeman Jaafar and Will Stevens put their two years of FR3.5 experience to good use, ending the session in third and fourth place respectively. Pietro Fantin, Nikolay Martsenko and Nigel Melker rounded out the top seven. They were closely followed by Marlon Stockinger, Luca Ghiotto and Oliver Rowland.
Rowland, 2013 Formula Renault 2.0 Eurocup runner up, was outpaced by his Russian team mate, Sirotkin, but ended the morning almost five tenths-of-a-second faster than series champion and rival, Pierre Gasly. The FR3.5 rookies finished tenth and eleventh place respectively.
Fortec Motorsports were the only team to conclude the session with both drivers in the top ten following a jostle for positions in the last few minutes. Carlin, however, is notably absent from testing duties but are still expected to take to the starting grid in Monza in April for the first FR3.5 round of the season.
