Carlos Sainz Jr ended the second day of testing fastest in his DAMS model, setting a new circuit record in the process.

His 1:38.340 surpassed the benchmark set by Oliver Rowland on Tuesday; today, the Briton finished down in nineteenth overall.

The Spaniard's time could not be beaten but Fortec Motorsport's Sergey Sirotkin and fellow Red Bull Junior, Pierre Gasly did begin to close the gap in the final few minutes.

International Draco Racing's Pietro Fantin remained consistent throughout the test to sit fourth overall. The Brazilian's pace comes following four points finishes in the 2013 FR3.5 season with Arden Caterham.

Will Buller won the battle of British drivers, out-pacing his compatriot, Will Stevens by one tenth-of-a-second to sit fourth. As the chequered flag fell on the day's test, Nigel Melker improved to finish seventh fastest.

The pace shown by Norman Nato at the start of the morning session was not sustained and Sainz Jr's team mate ended the Wednesday run in eighth position. Jazeman Jaafar and Marlon Stockinger completed the top ten.

FR3.5 testing continues on Thursday.
