Sergey Sirotkin topped the Friday morning time sheets as the fourth round of the World Series by Renault got under way in Spa-Francorchamps.
The Fortec Motorsports driver posted a last-minute flyer to jump from thirteenth to first in the last remaining seconds. Long-time leader, Pierre Gasly was forced to settle for second fastest, four tenths behind the fast-finishing Russian. Not once outside the top three, championship leader, Carlos Sainz Jr remained consistent but sat a further four hundredths-of-a-second behind his fellow Red Bull junior in third.
Lotus' Marlon Stockinger has a new team mate this weekend in the form of Richie Stanaway, who replaces an injured Matthieu Vaxiviere. The Filipino driver was three seconds faster than the returning racer, to sit fourth fastest. Pietro Fantin also got the better of his team mate, Luca Ghiotto and their International Draco Racing models finished morning practice fifth and sixth.
Meanwhile, Zoel Amberg continued his consistent run of form to place seventh with Will Stevens, Marco Sorensen and Meindert Van Buuren completing the top ten. Monaco race winner, Norman Nato settled for twelfth in the second DAMS model, outpacing one-time leader Jazeman Jaafar.
Oliver Rowland was two seconds down on his fellow Fortec Motorsports racer in sixteenth whilst Oscar Tunjo, who is making his début in Oliver Webb's former Pons Racing challenger, was seventeenth fastest.
The twenty drivers will return to the track this afternoon for the second practice session of the day.
