Nicholas Latifi ended Lotus' streak of fastest laps to lead on the third and final morning of Formula Renault 3.5 morning testing from Motorland, Aragon.
The Canadian, who is competing with Arden Motorsport today, produced a late-flying lap to displace long-time leader, Lotus' Andrea Pizzitola. Arden is the teenager's third team this week as he vies for a 2015 seat in the series.
A returning Oliver Rowland took to the helm of his race-winning Fortec Motorsports model for the first time since October's final round to claim second, three tenths slower than the leader. Pizzitola was unable to maintain the lead in the latter stages and settled for third overall, matching his finish from yesterday.
Pietro Fantin, one of the most experienced drivers on track, was fourth in the International Draco Racing model with rookies and Formula Renault 2.0 Eurocup graduates Lucas Auer and Egor Orudzhev fifth and sixth respectively. Betiske Visser continued her affiliation with Spanish team AV Formula for seventh while yesterday's leader Matthieu Vaxiviere dropped to eighth in the second Lotus.
Bruno Bonifacio and McLaren junior Nyck De Vries completed the top ten. 2014 FR2.0 Eurocup champion De Vries was just one second behind the leader in one of the most competitive testing sessions of the week.
Newcomers Marvin Kirchhofer and Nelson Mason were nineteenth and twentieth respectively after their first runs at the helm of the powerful 3.5 litre machines.
The drivers will return to the track for the final testing run of the week. Latifi's 1:40.479 is the time to beat.
