Matthieu Vaxiviere will start the first race of the Formula Renault 3.5 Championship weekend at Spa-Francorchamps from his second pole position of the season
Having set the pace in free practice yesterday, Vaxiviere was once again on form in the Lotus for qualifying as the times tumbled around the Belgian venue, the Aragon race winner stopping the clock at 1min 58.768secs.
Initially joined on the front row by Beitske Visser, the Dutchwoman had been set for a podium challenge, only for her AVF car to fail scrutineering. She will start at the back of the grid.
As a result of her demotion, Nicholas Latifi will start on the front row, with championship leader Jazeman Jaafar bouncing back from his troubles in practice to qualify third, ahead of closest rival and Fortec team-mate Oliver Rowland in fourth place.
Nyck de Vries will get underway from fifth, with Tio Ellinas, Dean Stoneman, F1 driver Roberto Merhi, Meindert van Buuren and Gutav Malja rounding out the top ten.
