Lotus' Matthieu Vaxiviere led both the morning and afternoon sessions to top the Friday time sheets at the fourth round of the Formula Renault 3.5 championship at the Hungaroring.
The Frenchman continued his run of good form over one lap to outpace his 19 rivals ahead of race one qualifying on Saturday. Tom Dillmann was behind the afternoon's greatest improvement to finish second fastest for returning team Jagonya Ayam Carlin, two tenths-of-a-second behind his compatriot.
Championship leader Oliver Rowland was third fastest overall, closely followed by his Fortec team mate Jazeman Jaafar and Strakka Racing's Tio Ellinas who sat fourth and fifth fastest respectively. Rookies Egor Orudzhev, Alex Albon, Nyck de Vries, Gustav Malja and Sean Gelael completed the top ten after improving dramatically on their times from the morning. Lotus junior Albon, representing Thailand, replaced Meindert Van Buuren for both of Friday's practice sessions.
The experience of Pietro Fantin was not enough to see his International Draco Racing model finish within the top ten, placing the Brazilian tenth. His team mate and compatriot sat 18th at the close of a mixed day for the Italian outfit.
Domiannt throughout Friday running, Vaxiviere will be looking to capitalise on the advantage to score his third pole position of the season, one year after his podium in the Hungarian capital.
