Oliver Rowland charged to his second pole position of the Formula Renault 3.5 season at the championship's fourth round in Budapest, Hungary.
The championship leader posted the fastest time of the weekend, a 1:28.867, to take control of Saturday morning qualifying in the Hungarian capital. At the close of qualifying, Fortec Motorsport's Rowland had amassed a gap of two tenths-of-a-second to Arden's Egor Orudzhev. The Russian was one of just two rookies to qualify within the top ten.
Meanwhile, Matthieu Vaxiviere continued his one lap prowess to qualify third, one day after dominating Friday practice in the for Lotus. In a confident display for Fortec, Jazeman Jaafar was fourth fastest with Tom Dillmann fifth for a new-look Carlin.
Pons Racing and Manor F1 driver Roberto Merhi qualified sixth, half a second down on the leader. Elswehere, Nicholas Latifi, Pietro Fantin, Aurelien Panis and Tio Ellinas filled the final positions within the top ten.
A late charge from DAMS' Dean Stoneman was only enough for eleventh with team mate, McLaren junior Nyck de Vries 18th. A mixed qualifying for Strakka Racing also saw Gustav Malja's attempts halted, leaving the Swede lining up at the back of the grid.
