Dean Stoneman led a DAMS Racing 1-2 during first practice at the seventh round of the Formula Renault 3.5 championship from the Nurburgring.
The Briton posted a last-minute flyer, a 1m 42.369s to surpass team Nyck de Vries in the final moments. HIs stablemate was just one tenth-of-a-second behind for the French outfit.
Silverstone race winner Tio Ellinas was a strong third for Strakka Racing with Tom Dillmann, fourth. Meanwhile, championship leader was down in fifth for Fortec Motorsports, one week after his double podium in front of a home crowd at Silverstone.
Rookies Alfonso Celis Jr and Gustav Malja were sixth and seventh respectively with title contender Matthieu Vaxiviere, eighth. The Arden duo of Nicholas Latifi and Hungary race winner Egor Orudzhev completed the top ten.
Roberto Merhi has decided to end his FR3.5 campaign with only three rounds remaining. This has promoted an all-new line up at Pons Racing as Rene Binder and Yu Kanamaru take to the helm of the Spanish team. After contract disputes forced Lotus to part ways with Meindert Van Buuren, Marlon Stockinger will partner Vaxiviere this weekend.
