Oliver Rowland was the fastest man on track during Friday practice at seventh round of the Formula Renault 3.5 championship at the Nurburgring.
The championship leader, who led most of the afternoon session, was unstoppable in the latter stages of Friday running to post a 1:41.961s and take the chequered flag two tenths-of-a-second faster than rookie Gustav Malja. The Swede's Strakka Racing stable mate, Tio Ellinas, was third fastest, just one week after his maiden FR3.5 victory at Silverstone last week.
Dean Stoneman, the morning leader, settles for fourth overall with a late surge from Pietro Fantin placing the Brazilian fifth for International Draco Racing. Matthieu Vaxiviere was someway down on his title rival Rowland with sixth, just surpassing the times of Nyck de Vries and Tom Dillmann.
The Frenchman barely lapped the Nurburgring, after some issues forced him back to the pits, but his morning time of 1m 42.609s was enough to place him eighth fastest. Meanwhile, Beitske Visser and Alfonso Celis Jr completed a competitive top ten.
Debutants Rene Binder and Yu Kanamaru - both competing for Pons Racing this weekend after Roberto Merhi vacated his seat at the Spanish outfit - were 18th and 19th respectively. After limited running, Sean Gelael was down in 20th but is still expected to compete in race one qualifying at 08:00BST.
