Matevos Isaakyan topped Wednesday afternoon testing but Spirit of Race's Matthieu Vaxiviere remained fastest overall on the second day of Formula 3.5 V8 running at Jerez.

Formula Renault 2.0 Eurocup alum Isaakayan posted a 1m 28.392 to lead in the dry on Wednesday afternoon but was trumped by his French rival's 1m 27.331 set in the morning session. Despite his best efforts to catch Vaxiviere, the Pons Racing debutant settled for third, behind team mate Yu Kanamaru.

All times posted in the afternoon were slower than the morning session, leaving Jake Hughes in fourth for Strakka Racing in front of 2015 Formula Renault 2.0 NEC champion Louis Deletraz.

Marvin Kirchhofer's morning time was under threat from a fast-finishing Alfonso Celis Jr. but the AVF duo remained sixth and seventh, with the Arden Motorsport pairing of Egor Orudzhev and reigning FR2.0 Eurocup champion Jack Aitken inside the top ten. George Russell was second in afternoon running - and just two tenths-of-a-second slower than Isaakyan but was still only good enough for tenth in the second Strakka Racing challenger.

He surpassed the more experienced racer Gustav Malja who was 12th on his d├ębut in the Fortec Motorsports model of Oliver Rowland after securing two podiums in 2015. Meanwhile, Comtec Racing returned to action for the first time since July with the Indian pairing of Jehan Daruvala and Mahaveer Raghunathan. The rookies finished in 14th and 17th respectively.

The Pons of Kanmaru completed 63 rotations of the dry Jerez circuit, using the weather to get in some long run testing before the winter break. He was eclipsed only by Celis Jr who set an impressive 65 laps throughout the second day. In contrast, Jagonya Ayam Carlin tester Vladimir Atoev - taking the seat of podium finisher Tom Dillmann - completed just 37 laps throughout the day.
