Japanese driver Yu Kanamaru has joined new Formula V8 3.5 team Teo Martin Motorsport for their first season onboard the evolving series.
Kanamaru - whose one-lap pace impressed team bosses in the latter half of the 2015 season - contested the final two rounds for Pons Racing. His 2016 signing will mark the 21-year-old's first full season at the helm of the 3.5 litre challengers.
Teo Martin's relationship with Kanamaru is long-lasting and sees a revival of their partnership for the first time since his Euroformula Open title tilt last year. Together, they ultimately finished third in the championship after securing seven podiums and one victory over the course of the season.
Speaking of his announcement, Kanamaru expressed his thanks to his long-standing affiliates as he looks ahead to a championship endeavour alongside his six confirmed rivals:
"First of all, I want to thank Teo for giving me such an opportunity," he said. "This championship is not going to be easy for sure, but I only see the potential and bright future of this team."
Spanish outfit Teo Martin Motorsport appeared equally thrilled by their latest signing, noting their experienced relationship as one of the core reasons behind today's announcement:
"We are delighted to have Yu in the team for this Formula V8 3.5 season. He made a very job in his World Series debut," said their spokesperson, noting Kanamaru's two top ten finishes. "It is important that our team provides a ladder for our drivers and the best example is Yu.
"He is a fast and young talented driver who has already shown his skills with these cars so, I am sure he can contribute a lot to the team in 2016."
Teo Martin Motorsport is yet to début its 2016 challenger after taking over DAMS' entry late last year, however Kanamaru is expected to appear with the team in time for pre-season testing.
