The first day of the 2016 Formula V8 3.5 season got under way at the Spanish circuit of Aragon on Friday where rookie Louis Deletraz finished fastest in morning practice for Fortec Motorsports.

The Swiss racer, and reigning Formula Renault NEC champion, led from the early moments of the morning session to take the chequered flag at the Spanish circuit.

Tom Dillmann was second fastest for AVF with the Arden Motorsport duo of Egor Orudzhev and Aurelien Panis third and fourth respectively.

Fifth-placed Matevos Isaakyan was warned for surpassing track limits and was ultimately put under investigation thus rendering his fastest lap time subject to question. The youngest driver on the grid – who has replaced Vladimir Atoev at SMP Racing – was closely followed by 3.5 litre veteran Beitske Visser.

Meanwhile, Rene Binder, Yu Kanamaru, Pietro Fittipaldi and Alfonso Celis Jr completed the top ten with 2015 runner-up Matthieu Vaxiviere some way of his best in 11th.

Strakka Racing announced their departure from the series citing financial issues and Comtec Racing were also not present at the first round having failed to sign a single driver for their 2016 campaign. As such, the field was down to 15 drivers with more hoping to join at a later stage.

FV8 practice will continue at 15:30 CET.
