Arden Motorsport's Egor Orudzhev will start his 2016 Formula V8 3.5 campaign in a strong position after clinching race one pole position at the season opener from Motorland, Aragon.

Although twice a Formula Renault 3.5 race winner, the teenager will sit on pole for the first time in the new-look series. The Russian, in his second season with Arden, led much of the qualifying session, ultimately lapping just one one hundredth-of-a-second faster than rookie Louis Deletraz at the Spanish circuit.

Deletraz, who dominated Friday practice, therefore settled for second with Tom Dillmann, third. Yu Kanamaru was an impressive fourth fastest just in front of an ever-improving Rene Binder and Teo Martin Motorsport team mate Beitske Visser.

Pietro Fittipaldi qualified seventh while Force India test and development driver Alfonso Celis Jr. will start from eighth for AVF. Aurelien Panis was ninth fastest, and more than half a second down on his team mate, Orudzhev. Meanwhile, 2015 runner-up Matthieu Vaxiviere completed the top ten qualifying positions for race one.

With Strakka Racing and Comtec Racing unable to make the first round, 15 drivers will compete in the first race scheduled for 14:20CET.
