Frenchman Tom Dillmann outpaced his closest rivals in the final stages to snatch pole position for AVF in a competitive Formula V8 3.5 at Motorland, Aragon.

This pole position is now the 27-year-old's second, the first being a one lap charge at Jerez last year. Although his best time was deleted for exceeding track limits at turn 9, Dillmann's second best time was still enough to secure the prime grid slot.

He will be joined on the front row by Arden Motorsport's Aurelien Panis who climbed from well outside the top ten to second fastest overall in the closing minute, two tenths-of a second behind Dillmann's pace.

Race one winner and Renault F1 Academy driver Louis Deletraz will line up third with previous Formula Renault 3.5 race winners Egor Orudzhev and Matthieu Vaxiviere fourth and fifth respectively.

Alfonso Celis Jr. starts this afternoon's race from sixth having lapped more than half a second slower than his AVF, pole-sitting team mate with Rene Binder seventh. Meanwhile, Johnny Cecotto Jr has returned from a brief career retirement to place eighth fastest and will complete the final top ten grid slots with the Teo Martin Motorsport pairing of Beitkse Visser and Yu Kanamaru.

Formula V8 3.5 race two begins at 13:40CET.
