FV8 Paul Ricard: Vaxiviere secures pole at home circuit

Matthieu Vaxiviere and new team SMP Racing secured pole position at the fourth round of the Formula V8 3.5 championship at the Frenchman's home circuit of Paul Ricard on Saturday.

Vaxiviere - himself a 2015 runner in the series - improved by his practice pace by over a second to clinch the coveted front row slot in the heat of the French circuit.

Roy Nissany will sit adjacent to the pole man for his former team Lotus with Egor Orudzhev just behind after a strong qualifying for Arden Motorsport and Rene Binder fourth in the second Lotus challenger.

Second in the championship standings, Louis Deletraz will be the highest-placed rookie on the grid when he lines up fifth for Fortec Motorsports. Behind, qualified the French duo of Aurelien Panis and title leader Tom Dillmann for sixth and seventh respectively. Dillmann is yet to finish outside of the podium in 2016 FV8 competition.

Meanwhile, Yu Kanamaru, Vitor Baptista and Beitske Visser completed the top ten. Artur Janosz - replacing Johnny Cecotto at new Italian outfit RP Motorsport for the fourth round of the championship - qualified 14th for his series debut.

The 15 drivers will line up for race one at 15:45 CET.
