Louis Deletraz has claimed his first pole position in the Formula V8 3.5 championship thanks to a final flying lap which saw him trump Matthieu Vaxiviere by less than a tenth of a second at the Red Bull Ring.

The Fortec Motorsport jumped from third to first with his last lap just seconds before the chequered flag which gave Vaxiviere no opportunity to respond to beat the Swiss driver.

As a result, Deletraz has grabbed a first pole position in the series as he continues to cement his place as top rookie of 2016.

With Vaxiviere in second, championship leader Tom Dillmann heads row two alongside Egor Orudzhev. Teo Martin Motorsport driver Yu Kanamaru starts from fifth ahead of Force India F1 development driver Alfonso Celis Jr.

Roy Nissany heads the fourth row from Vitor Baptista as Rene Binder and Matevos Isaakyan complete the top ten in qualifying.
