Walker confirms return

1 January 1901

James Walker has revealed that he will continue to race with Fortec Motorsport in this year's World Series by Renault, the association having already notched up a race win in its debut season.

With both now established in the championship, a delighted Walker believes a continuation of the partnership will give him the best chance of further success after his breakthrough victory on home soil at Donington Park in 2007.

“I had a good rookie season in the World Series, [and] the highlight was definitely the win at Donington, but I enjoyed the whole season as we made steady progress as we went through the races," he said, "I know I still have more to give and have continued to train hard over the winter to make sure I am ready for the new season. I know that the team will continue to push me hard and I am ready and willing to put the work in. I think we have some exciting times ahead of us.”

Speaking to Crash.net Radio during the off-season, Walker revealed that he had bonded well on his return to the team that had run him in the 2005 British F3 Championship, and that he had formed a strong working relationship with race engineer Chris Gorne.

“James is the right choice for Fortec,” Gorne, now the team's technical director, said, “He did a good job for us last year and made significant improvements as the season went on. Staying with us for his, and our, second season in WSbR gives both James and the team a sound platform to capitalise on.

"All the teams have changes with the new car, so working with the same driver reduces the variables and enables us to hit the ground running. I am sure James will be a much stronger and confident competitor from the first race - his application and feedback are exemplary, so it's just a matter of time.”

Walker won't have much longer to wait to get his hands on the 2008-specification World Series by Renault car, which features improved aerodynamic performance and increased engine power, as the first official test of 2008 is scheduled for 5 March in Valencia. The race season gets underway at Monza in April.
