Carbone to lead Ultimate Signature charge.

Fabio Carbone will return full-time to the World Series by Renault this season, having signed a deal to join the newly-formed Ultimate Signature team alongside fellow Brazilian Claudio Cantelli.

Although he seems to have been around forever, the 27-year old Carbone returns to Europe after a successful year in Japan, where he raced in the Formula Nippon Championship and finished second in the Japanese GT series. A former Zandvoort Masters F3 winner and Macau pole setter, Carbone has raced and tested World Series cars, although he returns to the series at a time when it is poised to introduce a brand new Dallara chassis.

“I'm delighted to have this opportunity to return to race in Europe after some very enjoyable seasons in Japan," the Brazilian commented, "The value of the World Series by Renault can be seen just by looking at the list of previous winners.

"Ultimate Signature may be a new team, but there is a lot experience behind it and, together with my own racing experience, I feel very confident that we can put together a very strong package.”

Ultimate Signature is indeed new to the World Series this term, having been formed by a collaboration between UK-based Ultimate Motorsport and French team Signature - which both step up from F3 - specifically to take on the WSbR challenge.

“After a successful debut season in 2007, we are proud to have secured the services of Fabio," team principal Barry Walsh commented, "We have been following his career for a while now, and I'm sure we will be able to benefit from his experience this year, in our first season of World Series by Renault.”
