P1 Motorsport targets first win.
P1 Motorsport unveiled its 2008 World Series by Renault campaign in a flurry of patriotic colours as it looks to improve on its first venture into the championship.
Sponsors, guests and the media were all present at the team's Norfolk workshop to see the covers come off a pair of brand new Dallaras, complete with fresh new livery, and meet the team, clad now in designer team kit.
Graced by some rare April sun, drivers Giedo van der Garde and Pippa Mann, mechanics, engineers and team director Roly Vincini posed with the car in front of a new transporter, also painted in the team's new colour scheme. Designed by lifestyle fashion brand McGregor and inspired by racing and style legend Steve McQueen, the kit has a distinctly retro feel to it, but that did not stop the team from looking forward to the coming campaign.
P1 returns to the World Series having successfully completed its debut year in 2007 with podiums and pole positions. However, that elusive first win continues to be a target - one which the experienced van der Garde hopes to address.
“The team really impressed me throughout the winter testing and pre-season preparations, and I'm confident that, together, we can compete at the front of this championship," the Dutchman said, "Roly has plenty of experience, which is so important in a series such as this one, and I think both myself and team are hungry and ready to win.”
Mann re-signed with P1 back in January, following a solid debut season in the World Series which saw the 23-year old score points in her first race and start from pole on the reversed grid principal in her second.
“I'm under no illusion that it's going to be easy but, as long as I can continue in the same way that I finished 2007, then I should be able to achieve the goals of regularly scoring points," the Briton insisted, "There are some changes – we have a new car, and I have a new team mate in Giedo - but I'm excited about everything and cannot wait to get back out onto the circuit!”
The first round of the World Series takes place at Monza on 26 April.
