Wickens `ecstatic` with maiden pole.

Robert Wickens claims there is more to come from himself and the car ahead of this weekend's World Series by Renault races at Silverstone, this despite the Candian scoring a dominant pole position in qualifying.

Although he has shown front running pace, Wickens has nonetheless endured a torrid start to the season and heads into rounds six and seven at Silverstone with just four points to his name.

Nonetheless, he has responded in the best way possible so far this weekend by topping day one of practice and then securing a comfortable pole position in Superpole.

Despite his three tenth advantage over second placed Giedo van der Garde though, Wickens insists his Carlin machine is not yet to his liking and that there is more to come from himself too.

“I am really ecstatic to get the first pole position of the season for the team,” he told Crash.net Radio. “In Monza I was quickest in my group but I wasn't on pole, so it is great to check that off the resume.

“Carlin are doing a fantastic job and I managed a pretty good lap, although it could have been better and I think there is still more to come from the car. I can't complain though because we seem to be a little bit quicker than everybody else. My championship starts here.”

With qualifying dictating that the top eight drivers are reversed on the grid for the first race, Wickens will therefore start eighth for today's event before taking up his rightful pole position for tomorrow's race.

However, despite being on the fourth row, Wickens believes he can still make sterling progress up the order and cautiously eyeing a double win.

“I have my mind set on trying to win both races. I know I am quick and I can fight for a podium in the first race, but from what I have seen from previous events here, you can overtake, so I am confident I can move up in the race. Maybe I can go for the win in race one, but if not then I think we are on course for a good result in race two nonetheless.”
