Andy Soucek will return to the World Series by Renault fold this week after accepting an invitation to test for RC Motorsport at Paul Ricard.
Soucek, who finished fourth in his rookie WSbR season back in 2006, has been Renault's unofficial test driver since the latest generation chassis was launched last year, experience that RC Motorsport is hoping to capitalise on.
Indeed, having finished last of the 13 teams this season and endured a total of five driver changes, RC Motorsport team boss Cristiano Giardina is determined to get back to the form that saw them finish sixth overall just last year.
"We called Andy, who has joined us with great enthusiasm as a test driver, to fill the gaps we had during 2008 season,” he said.
“We have renovated our staff of engineers with some people coming from other winning teams. With a talented driver, and two days of intense work, I am sure that we would be back the competitiveness that was missing year!”
It remains to be seen whether this could signal a return to the series for Soucek, who endured a scattered season in GP2 this year. Dropped by FMS International shortly before the first race, Soucek scored points on his sole DPR outing before signing with Super Nova and recording a best of second place.
He will be joined in the test by German Formula 3 Cup driver Federico Leo
