Carlos Sainz Jr converted his pole position to a third career victory in Spa, extending his championship lead with an additional twenty-five points.

The Spaniard was able to hold off a fast-starting Pierre Gasly on the first lap to lead a Red Bull Junior Team 1-2 in Belgium. The Frenchman has now displaced Oliver Rowland for second in the championship standings, adding eighteen points to his title charge.

An incident between Richie Stanaway and Roberto Merhi saw the two drivers collide with Sergey Sirotkin and Zoel Amberg forcing all four drivers to retire as the safety was deployed. Rowland was caught up in the battle and dropped to the back of the grid before adding himself to the lists of retirements with a mechanical problem. This was to be Fortec Motorsports' first double retirement of the season.

Strakka Racing's Matias Laine jumped four places at the start from seventh to third but, despite his strong drive, was unable to secure his maiden podium finish. It was Jazeman Jaafar who claimed third from his Finnish rival, his second of the season following a podium finish in Monaco last week. The Malaysian continued to pile on the pressure as the safety car returned to the pits.

Winner on the streets of Monte Carlo, Norman Nato sat fifth, greeting the chequered flag nineteen seconds after his DAMS Racing team mate, Sainz Jr. The Frenchman greatly improved on his twelfth place grid slot to score some valuable championship points. Behind him, Luca Ghiotto made his way through the field pulling off some brave overtakes at Eau Rogue in the latter moments to finish sixth for International Draco Racing, six tenths-of-a-second ahead of Will Stevens in the second Strakka model.

Former Lotus team mates, Marco Sørensen and Marlon Stockinger claimed eighth and ninth respectively with Beitske Visser securing her first championship point of the season in tenth. Meanwhile, William Buller just missed out on the points in eleventh.

An incident between Jazeman Jaafar and Meindert Van Buuren is currently under investigation. Van Buuren finished in twelfth position and outside the points for Pons Racing.
