Tech 1 Racing has announced the signing of Brendon Hartley for at least the first three rounds of the new World Series by Renault Series season.

Hartley, who finished third in the British F3 series last season and has since been named as test and reserve driver for both the Red Bull and Toro Rosso F1 teams, will join previously announced Charles Pic for the events at Barcelona, Spa and Monaco and could do more races during the year that don't clash with his commitments in the F3 Euroseries.

The deal will see Hartley racing against his own Carlin team, which will run former F3 team-mates Jaime Alguersuari and Oliver Turvey, and team boss Simon Abadie said he was pleased to have the Kiwi onboard.

"This agreement with the Red Bull Junior Team is very good news for Tech 1 Racing," he said. "Brendon will do at least the first three events of the 2009 season with us. Depending on his availability, either he'll continue with us for the rest of the year or he'll be replaced by another Red Bull driver.

"With Charles Pic and Brendon we're ideally armed to have a great season. Our recognition by the Renault Driver Development programme and by the Red Bull Junior Team proves that Tech 1 Racing has moved up to another level and gained in renown. We're all very motivated and ready to take up the challenge. We've got to be good straight away starting with this weekend in Barcelona."

The team had previously announced a deal with Danill Move, but the Russian is now being linked with the vacant berth at P1 Motorsport.
