Jazeman Jaafar ended the Monday session fastest overall after his benchmark of 1:26.840 set in the morning, could not be surpassed.

Despite showing impressive pace in the afternoon session, Oliver Rowland had to settle for second; the Briton was the highest-placed rookie of the day. Will Stevens' early pace saw him slot third fastest overall, just one hundredth-of-a-second behind Rowland's Fortec model.

Meanwhile, Marlon Stockinger's pace came late in the day but was enough to put him fourth overall following a red flag incident; Norman Nato hit the barriers with eight minutes remaining of the afternoon session. This error did little to effect his overall position and the Frenchman remained ninth.

His team mate Carlos Sainz Jr, who is competing with defending champions DAMS this year, had a late surge to finish fifth fastest whilst Sergey Sirotkin could not match the pace of his fellow Fortec driver, Rowland and sat sixth overall.

Matias Laine, Matthieu Vaxiviere, Norman Nato and Nigel Melker completed the top ten. Despite his best efforts, Nikolay Martsenko who is the only representative for Comtec Racing this test, sat just outside the top ten in eleventh.

Beitske Visser showed impressive early pace following a successful Formula Renault 2.0 Eurocup campaign last week, however the former Red Bull junior finished way down the order, almost two seconds slower than front-runner Jaafar at the close of the first day.

Testing will continue on Tuesday and Wednesday, the last pre-season test before the season opener in Monza next month.
