Beitske Visser will race with AVF in the 2014 Formula Renault 3.5 championship.

The former Red Bull junior officially joins the Spanish team as the final day of pre-season testing gets under-way in Jerez. The 19-year-old will make her race d?but in Monza next month partnering Zoel Amberg, who is entering his third consecutive championship battle this year.

The Formula Renault 3.5 rookie will be the first female to contest the championship since Pippa Mann in 2008. Despite losing her Red Bull backing late last year, Visser has enjoyed a successful Formula Renault 2.0 Eurocup testing stint this year alongside her FR3.5 duties.

The Dutch driver, who steps up from a full season of ADAC Formel Masters to the Formula 1 feeder series, spoke of her excitement ahead of the season opener.

"I fell in love with the Formula Renault 3.5 car in Monza, and from then on contesting the World Series season became my only aim", she said.

"I worked hard with the engineers to understand the car and to step-up in terms of driving, and in the meantime I used any spare time I had to work out and build the strength and the stamina needed to master such a car", she added.

"I'm really looking forward to the start of the season in Monza", she concluded.

Team Principal, Adrian Valles spoke fondly of his complete driver line up and Visser's determination to gain a Formula Renault 3.5 seat.

"I'm delighted that Beitske will be with us for the season", he explained.

"At the beginning I was impressed by her boldness, as she jumped into our Formula Renault 3.5 car after just a couple of seasons in the ADAC Formula Masters, but after that I got to know her and I realized that with courage come huge amounts of natural talent, dedication and focus", he concluded.

AV Formula's sole podium came courtesy of Arthur Pic in 2013. The Spanish team are only the seventh team to complete their 2014 driver line up, just weeks before the first race of the season.
