Roberto Merhi secured his second career victory at the Nurburgring this afternoon, moving to second in the championship standings.

The series rookie still remains thirty-nine points behind title leader Carlos Sainz Jr with three rounds still remaining. However, the twenty-three-year-old insists the fight for FR3.5 glory is not over following his race two victory.

"We are getting stronger and stronger at each meeting", he said. "I was careful at the start in paying attention to the drivers behind and I was smart to do so!", he admitted referencing the speed of the Lotus duo Matthieu Vaxiviere and Marlon Stockinger throughout the race.

"The safety car wasn't good for me because it erased my lead from Matthieu who was very quick today", he explained. Pitting the same time as returning racer Vaxiviere, Merhi's advantage dropped to within one second, activating the Frenchman's DRS. Despite this, the series rookie held on to the lead, converting his pole position to claim twenty five championship points.

Speaking shortly after his Nurburgring victory, the Spaniard also praised Zeta Corse as they move to fourth in the team standings, one point ahead of an ailing Arden Motorsport.

"Happily we made a good pit stop to come back out just ahead and wrap up an excellent weekend with this victory", he concluded.

This weekend marked Merhi's third time in the top three this season.
