Tech 1 Racing has signed Nicholas Latifi for the next two rounds of the Formula Renault 3.5 championship at the Hungaroring and Paul Ricard.

The Canadian will partner series regular Marco Sorensen at the French outfit. Alfonso Celis Jr. filled the vacant seat at the German round in July but is not expected to return to FR3.5 action after the summer break.

Latifi will continue his third consecutive FIA European F3 campaign alongside his new World Series by Renault duties. Racing for defending champions Prema Powerteam, the 19-year-old currently sits tenth in the overall standings, an improvement on his fifteenth place last year.

"We're delighted to welcome Nicholas Latifi to our team," Tech 1's team manager Simon Abadie remarked following the announcement. "Nicholas won't have much time to find his feet in the car and get used to the DRS, starting procedures and pit stops, but we've got every confidence in his ability to learn quickly. He'll take advantage of every second to gain experience," he continued noting the technological advancements within FR3.5 over the last few years.

2014 has been a difficult year for the four time champions who currently sit eleventh in the constructors' standings after fielding just one car for the first five rounds. Their last FR3.5 title victory came back in 2012 with Robin Frijns at the helm.

Latifi will make his FR3.5 debut during Friday practice on the 12th September. A driver for the final round in Jerez is yet to be confirmed. Carlos Sainz Jr is the current championship leader with a thirty-nine point lead over his nearest rival Roberto Merhi.
