Gustav Malja will join Strakka Racing for the 2015 Formula Renault 3.5 season, the team has announced.

The Swede signs with the British outfit after two years in Formula Renault 2.0 Eurocup where he finished 12th in the championship last year. Malja made his 3.5 litre debut for Zeta Corse during post-season testing but joins the established Renault competitors for his first full season.

I'm absolutely thrilled to be stepping up to Formula Renault 3.5 with Strakka Racing this season," the young racer said following the announcement. "I've felt immediately at home with the team, and we share the same views about how to go racing."

"Joining this championship will mark the greatest challenge of my career so far, but I learned a lot in winter testing and I do feel well-prepared," he continued. "This is a fantastic opportunity; I can't wait for the season to get under way."

Strakka finished sixth in last year's team battle with Matias Laine and Will Stevens racing for the Silverstone-based outfit. The latter - who later went on to compete for Caterham F1 in Abu Dhabi - secured two wins over the course of the season.

Team principal Dan Walmsley has spoken fondly of the 19-year-old racer as the team looks set to sign an all-new driver pairing.

"Gustav is definitely one to watch and we are delighted to have such a focused and committed driver at Strakka Racing," he said following the announcement. "Getting Gustav signed early means we can start straight away on our in-house simulator together with the Strakka Performance team and build upon Gustav's impressive winter testing."

Malja's team mate will be announced at a later date.
