Tio Ellinas will partner Gustav Malja at Strakka Racing for his first full Formula Renault 3.5 title campaign, the team has confirmed.

The Cypriot racer - who once tested for Marussia back in 2013 - will also be managed by Strakka this year.

The 23-year-old joins Renault's flagship series after an interrupted GP2 campaign in 2014. He first tested with the Silverstone-based outfit last year, impressing team principal Dan Walmsely.

"In Tio, we see a driver with fantastic natural talent and the ability to work hard and learn," he said of his new signing. "Managing him, means that we can unleash and guide the potential he obviously has.

"Gustav and Tio give us a great line up and we are extremely confident we can improve on our championship standings from last year," he continued.

Ellinas joins the established team after parting ways with the 2014 driver pairing of Matias Laine and Will Stevens. Together they secured two wins and a podium to sit Strakka sixth in the championship standings.

"We worked really well at the Young Driver Test and it was clear that Strakka could engineer a quick car in both the wet and dry," Ellinas explained. "Strakka is the complete package with the best support and equipment, on and off the track."

Pre-season testing starts next month followed by the first round of the season at Motorland, Aragon in April.
