Matthieu Vaxiviere admits he is enjoying the complex twists and turns of Silverstone as his closely-fought battles for Formula Renault 3.5 title glory continue.

The Frenchman praised the Silverstone circuit after a tough fight to finish third for Czech team Lotus. He was joined this weekend by returning racer, and new team mate, Nick Yelloly. Speaking to following his sixth podium of the season, the Frenchman revealed his delight at facing championship rival Oliver Rowland at the high speed-track.

"Every race is important but this one was exciting because it was with Oliver," he explained post race. "Silverstone is a great track, it is almost my favourite and it's also an F1 track which is nice.

Rowland finished second, one position ahead of his main rival, in an action-packed thriller during race one at Britain's historic circuit. The race was won by Ellinas, who obtained his first win for local team Strakka Racing. This resurgence of pace, however, did not surprise the Frenchman.

"For sure Tio is a great driver and he has had a chance to prove that," he continued. "He did the best job this weekend - on pole this morning, fastest yesterday and then to win it - it was great for him."

FR3.5 returned to Silverstone after a lengthy summer break. 29 now points separate Vaxiviere and Rowland with seven races remaining. Despite, this the Frenchman is adamant that the championship is not on his mind at this stage.

"When you don't win, you are never very happy but I am fairly happy. I knew there was a possibility to win the race if I got a good start on Tio and if I had overtaken Jazeman [Jaafar] earlier."

Vaxiviere has three wins thus far this season but faces tough competition on the cards tomorrow.
