Nyck de Vries is hoping to win a five driver battle for third in the Formula Renault 3.5 championship and best rookie when race one gets under way this afternoon at Jerez, Spain.

The 2014 Formula Renault 2.0 Eurocup champion is aiming for third after Oliver Rowland and Matthieu Vaxiviere guaranteed themselves first and second at the penultimate round at Le Mans two weeks ago. He officially joined DAMS after a single day of post-season testing last year, ultimately partnering fellow rookie Dean Stoneman at the French outfit.

The two-time driver and team champions took a risk signing two relatively inexperienced drivers and will hope they can finish the season with a trophy. De Vries and Stoneman are battling race winners Egor Orudzhev and Tio Ellinas along with an in-form Tom Dillmann for the coveted third place slot.
