Salvador Duran heads into qualifying for rounds six and seven of the World Series by Renault on a high after securing the fastest time of the weekend in free practice at Silverstone.

A return to the circuit for the former British Formula 3 driver, Duran made great strides over the day to improve upon previous form that had seen him languishing outside the top ten over the first three practice sessions.

Nonetheless, a good lap in the latter stages was enough to unseat the session's surprise package, Marcos Martinez.

The Spaniard was enjoying a much better afternoon after crashing in the morning session, the Pons Racing driver almost ending the day on top until Duran undercut him by a mere six hundredths of a second.

Fabio Carbone bounced back from a disappointing morning to get himself and Ultimate Signature back up the order in third, ahead of Giedo van der Garde. The Dutchman had been fastest in the morning, but kept a watching brief in the final session to end the day fourth best and well placed to improve in qualifying.

Alvaro Barba was fifth fastest, despite crashing off midway through the session in his Prema Powerteam machine. Draco Racing's Bertrand Baguette and Marco Barba sandwiched Carlin's Robert Wickens in sixth, seventh and eighth, while Maximo Cortes and James Walker rounded out the top ten.
