Matthieu Vaxiviere has claimed his second victory of the season in race one at the Red Bull Ring having defended from pole-sitter Louis Deletraz for the majority of the race.

The French driver grabbed the lead from Deletraz with strong drive off the line up to turn one, while the rookie also slipped behind Egor Orudzhev in the charge to turn two.

Deletraz regained his composure to get back ahead of Orudzhev on lap two despite a small clash but Vaxiviere had already built a three-second lead out ahead.

The Fortec Motorsport driver gave a gallant charge to catch Vaxiviere but with overtaking opportunities difficult to forge out at the Spielberg circuit the SMP Racing driver held his nerve to ease to victory.

After Orudzhev dropped out of the running, Tom Dillman moved into the final rostrum spot to strengthen his Formula V8 3.5 championship lead over Roy Nissany who finished sixth.

Force India F1 development driver Alfonso Celis Jr grabbed fourth place ahead of Aurelien Panis with Nissany sixth, as Yu Kanamar leading home his Teo Martin Motorsport team-mate Beitske Visser.

RP Motorsport duo Marco Bonanomi and Vitor Baptista rounded out the points-paying positions.
