F1 2010 hopeful Bruno Senna is set to make a quick – and probably final – appearance in the GP2 Series after being invited by his former team iSport International to help with the development of next year's car during the post-season testing session at Jerez de la Frontera next week.

Senna finished as championship runner-up to ex-F1 ace Giorgio Pantano in the grand prix feeder series last year, triumphing along the way both in Monaco and at Silverstone. After a hoped-for top flight bow this season ultimately came to nought as Brawn GP/Honda eventually plumped for more experienced compatriot Rubens Barrichello over the young nephew of legendary three-time world champion Ayrton Senna, the 25-year-old has increased his experience by competing for Oreca in sportscar circles, making his debut in the iconic round-the-clock Le Mans 24 Hours back in June.

“iSport will sign new drivers for 2010,” he explained, “and I will help them by providing a benchmark whilst working on the set-up and performance of the car. I got a call from team owner Paul Jackson and could not resist giving them a helping hand, as we built a very good relationship during our days together. For me it is also a good opportunity to drive a single-seater again, as this year I have been mainly driving endurance prototypes in the Le Mans Series.

“I don't think it will take many laps at all to get back to where I was a year ago with this car. It is a very familiar working environment for me, and I am looking forward to trying to push the performance development of the car even further with the team who I had so much success with a year ago.”

Senna will climb back into the cockpit on the third and final day of the major group test around the Spanish circuit, but he is quick to point out that the brief comeback does not mean a full-time return to the category is on the cards for 2010. F1, he assures, remains very much the focus – with newcomer Campos Grand Prix believed to be in pole position to secure the São Paulista's services for his 'rookie' campaign at the highest level.

“Our latest talks proved even more exciting,” he enthused. “Everything keeps going well, and the pace of negotiations has increased in the last few weeks. I'm looking forward to having good news in the coming days.”
