Ralf Schumacher to help run GP3 team

Mercedes-Benz DTM ace and former grand prix-winner Ralf Schumacher looks set to branch out into team management in the all-new GP3 Series with Team Mücke in 2010
Six-time grand prix-winner Ralf Schumacher is to help run a team in the new-for-2009 GP3 Series, it has been reported in his homeland.

The German is presently competing in the pan-European DTM touring car championship, but despite having been granted a current-spec Mercedes-Benz C-Class for his second season of tin-top racing, he has only succeeded in notching up nine points from the first nine outings, with a best finish of fifth place last time out at Dijon, a weekend the Stuttgart manufacturer thoroughly dominated.

By contrast, the 34-year-old's team-mates in the same car – Gary Paffett, Paul di Resta and Bruno Spengler – have registered respectively 49, 39 and 39 points, and Jamie Green who was demoted to older machinery to make way for Schumacher has tallied 23.

That has raised some doubts as to whether the former Jordan, Williams and Toyota F1 star will still be a feature on the DTM grid in 2010 – but it seems that even if he does no longer have a drive, he will remain busy.

According to Bild newspaper, Schumacher will be involved in the management of Team Mücke's GP3 entry. The new single-seater series will act as a feeder category to GP2, which is itself a feeder formula for F1.
