Super Nova drivers Luca Filippi and Mike Conway betrayed their lack of experience around the narrow streets of Monaco during free practice for this weekend's GP2 race in the Principality, by languishing towards the wrong end of the timesheets.
Taking advantage of the 30-minute session simply to familiarise themselves with the challenging layout, Bahrain feature race-winner Filippi and reigning British F3 Champion Conway wound up respectively 14th and 25th at the end of proceedings, with the latter almost a full four seconds shy of the leading pace.
“It's my first time here in Monaco and on a street circuit,” Filippi commented afterwards, “so it was really good today. I know where I can improve myself and where we can improve the car, and I'm feeling quite relaxed and confident. There is a special atmosphere here, so it will be fun!”
“It went ok for me,” his British team-mate added. “I just spent the session getting used to the track, as I haven't been here before. It seems a lot wider when you walk around, but in the car it's really tight, especially the hairpin. I'm looking forward to tomorrow and hope to qualify well in the afternoon.”
