Experience and youth will be the feature of Racing Engineering's first post-season test of 2007, after the Spanish team revealed that it would partner series veterans Javi Villa and Ernesto Viso with Thor-Christian Ebbesvik at Jerez this week.
The test will use the current GP2 cars and is mainly intended to evaluate new drivers for next year, with Ebbesvik getting his chance after impressing in his maiden Spanish F3 campaign. The Norwegian jumped straight into the series from two years in British FFord, but has shown a quick adaptation to the 'slicks and wings' category, lying second overall in the Cup class with rookie team West-Tec.
The 23-year old will drive on the first day of testing on Thursday, while Friday will be devoted to Viso's return to action after an intermittent season. The Venezuelan had hoped to find work as an F1 test driver but, when offers were not forthcoming, accepted Racing Engineering's offer to race one of its cars at Magny-Cours. That outing last less than a lap before Viso suffered one of the most frightening accidents of the year, and he missed the following Silverstone event as a result of concussion. He returned at the Nurburgring, but was replaced by Marcos Martinez for the remainder of the season.
Villa, meanwhile, will test on both days with the target of preparing for next season when, given his 2007 results, he will be listed among the title contenders.
