Jerome D'Ambrosio produced a fine display on his debut outing in GP2 machinery after posting the quickest time amongst the rookie drivers on the opening day of testing at Paul Ricard.
The 21-year-old joined Campos Grand Prix for the first day of the test as a reward for his success in the inaugural Formula Master campaign, with the Belgian driver posting a fine time of 1m 14.123s from his 84 laps at the wheel of the car.
“Driving today was fantastic,” he said. “It's faster than anything I've tested before and you brake much later. It's very different to what I'm used to but I didn't have a problem adapting. I was fast this morning despite red flags on one of my runs and my best time wasn't even on new tyres.
"The team is happy and I had a really good day, especially with setting the 'best rookie' time. Now I have to concentrate on tomorrow's test with Arden Racing and let's see what the future brings."
Two other Formula Master graduates also took part in the test session, with Marcello Puglisi and Kasper Andersen testing for the Minardi Piquet and FMS International teams during the day.
D'Ambrosio will now join Arden Racing today, while series runner-up Chris van der Drift will join Trident Racing on Thursday and Friday.
