Christian Bakkerud admits he can't wait to hit the track in the new GP2 Asia series as the Danish driver looks to make up for the track time he lost during the regular 2007 campaign.

Bakkerud missed five races during the season due to a back injury, but was still able to secure a drive with Super Nova for the Asian series – which will start in Dubai in January and also take in events in Indonesia, Malaysia and Bahrain.

With his current deal being for the Asian series only, Bakkerud admitted he was hoping to secure a deal for the regular campaign on the back of the five-race series but added that his main focus was on getting back up to speed after a season full of problems.

"The tests with Super Nova were for the forthcoming GP2 Asia Series, and there are a lot of things that I am hoping to get out of that campaign," he said in his most recent Crash.net column. "The Asian series is run over five race meetings and, this year, I missed five races due to my back, so it should put me back up with the rest of the guys from last year. I'm just trying to gain back as much track time as possible so that I can be as competitive as possible for the next European series.

"I'll have done five race weekends before the first race in Europe next year and I think that's going to be very positive for me, whether it's with the old car or the new car. It's not going to be a difference of night and day, it's going to be small differences to the feeling of the car - or at least that's what I have heard from people who have tested it!

"I'm hoping the relationship with Super Nova is going to carry on into next summer too. We have an option in the contract so, if everything goes according to plan, then we can pick that up for next year. I feel that, if I prove myself in this Asian Series, they'll want to continue with me."
