More Spa misery for Chandhok

Karun Chandhok's hopes of repeating his historic first GP2 Series win at Spa-Francorchamps in 2007 look unlikely to be realised, in race one at least, after the Indian ran into further trouble after qualifying.

The Indian, who won last year's sprint race at the Belgian venue, was already resigned to losing his pole position after picking up a ten-place grid penalty for contact in the previous round in Valencia, but took a second heavy blow when it was deemed that he had ignored yellow flags on the final lap of a dramatic wet session on Friday.

Handed a further five-place penalty, which will be applied on top of the ten places that he already had to drop, means that the iSport driver will now line up on the outside of row eight instead of the inside of row six as he had initially been resigned to after setting the fastest time of the half-hour session.

Chandhok was not the only driver to be caught out by the stewards, as Sebastien Buemi, who had qualified a provisional sixth, was found guilty of exactly the same offence and will also drop five places to start eleventh.

Chandhok's iSport team-mate Bruno Senna inherited pole position as the Indian took his punishment, setting up an intriguing start to the latest instalment of his title battle with Giorgio Pantano and Lucas di Grassi.

The Italian, who holds a 13-point advantage with four races to go, will start fourth on the grid, but outsider di Grassi, who stands a better chance of taking Senna's second place in the standings, will have to come from the back of the field after going off early in qualifying.
