Mortara to make GP2 debut

F3 Euroseries front-runner Edoardo Mortara is to make his GP2 debut when he takes part in this week's two-day test session at Jerez.

Mortara, who finished second behind Nico Hulkenberg in the Euroseries points standings,, will drive for different teams on the two days in Spain as he takes time out of his F3 commitments prior to the end of season Macau Grand Prix next month.

Currently evaluating his options for 2009, Mortara will drive for Trident Racing on day one of the test on Wednesday before switching over to Arden for day two.

“I'm very much looking forward to having the chance to test a GP2 car, which will be a brand new experience for me,” the 21-year-old said. “I'd like to thank Volkswagen for giving me permission to do the test, which is very much appreciated along with all the rest of their support throughout the season.

“At the moment I am assessing different options for 2009, and I hope that this new experience of different cars and teams in Jerez will give me some useful knowledge for the future.”
