Bratt in talks about Asia, 2009 deal

Will Bratt has revealed he is in talks about making a possible debut in the GP2 Asia Series before making a full-time graduation to the championship in 2009.

Former Formula Renault UK frontrunner Bratt, who finished sixth in his first season of Formula 3 racing in Spain, has been eyeing a move to the Formula 1 feeder series ever since he made a stunning impression in testing at Paul Ricard.

Going second quickest for the David Price Racing team, Bratt's performance immediately caught the eye of several teams and has given the 20-year-old an appetite to compete in GP2 next season.

Indeed, Bratt says he is in negotiations to make an early GP2 appearance in the Asia Series, as well as a more permanent deal in the 2009 European championship.

“Both runs I've had in GP2 testing have been fantastic, it's an amazing car and I've shown how competitive I am”, he said, “It's the only place I want to be next year and given the required backing we have a great chance to do well in GP2. Our ultimate goal is Formula One, investing in my career now with a move to GP2 is essential.

“Although we had a lot of bad luck, this year was good and I learned a lot racing the F3 car. Sixth in the championship wasn't bad considering some of the problems we had but we know we could have easily won the title if things had gone smoothly. As the GP2 tests have shown, I'm ready to step-up another level and GP2 is where I need to be.”
