DAMS' Davide Valsecchi topped a rain-hit practice session, which saw a lengthy red flag for a heavy crash for Venezuela GP Lazarus' Giancarlo Serenelli mid-session.

Good job from Valsecchi but I just have a hard time being excited about this GP2 season. The likes of Valsecchi and Razia are doing well to occupy the top spots of course, but I just think they have taken too many seasons to get there and I cannot see any F1 team seriously consider them unless they raise a hefty sponsorship portfolio.

And the drivers tailing them I feel are slightly disappointing too. I had high hopes for Gutierrez but he's no longer a rookie and if he is to get into F1 he'd need to be above guys like Valsecchi and Razia. Might sound harsh but the only driver in this year's field I consider a possible future F1 challenger has to be Calado. Close enough to his teammate in his debut season, showing glimpses of brilliance here and there.
