Not enough money, and no understanding of what the car is doing.

I had high hopes that Williams had turned around last season, but now they are way back in the doldrums. The last thing in the world Frank would want is to handover the team in this state. But they need change.

It's amazing! All these "top aerodynamicists", "top engineers", computers and software and these teams (not just Williams but McLaren etc) still don't really know what makes a good car. Just guesswork by the look of it.

They can't afford the best people anymore and any good people they develop get nicked by other teams.

It pained me to come to the conclusion that if it wasn't for the 'B' teams in Spain they were the slowest team on the grid, the Minardi's.

They need strong leadership and a proven no1 driver, they have a completely untested team principle, a fast but inconsistent no1 driver and a rookie who is an unknown quantity in F1 (might be good). Can hardly believe that's Williams I'm describing that I grew up watching :S

She said they know where the problem lies, and it's not a ''quick fix'' - so ill-informed comments about team personnel are somewhat wide of the mark. Remember, too, that Ferrari very recently discovered their wind tunnel had not been calibrated correctly - so it can happen to top teams too. Last year's Williams showed they haven't forgotten how to build a winning car.

When the BBC reporter interviewed Claire Williams in the paddock during free practice last week, he mentioned that James Allison had just left Lotus and might be available. She responded along the lines of: "Is he? Is he available? If he is, I've got to go and talk to him!"

Doesn't exactly sound like a vote of confidence or a ringing endorsement of the guy currently occupying that position at Williams! LOL

f1rules. maybe you could take claires comment a different way?
Allison has been "on the market" for a few weeks, and Claire didn't know???????
of course she knew, and there have been strong rumours that Allison could be going to Williams.

no smoke without fire??

@richard,

You may be right. Maybe she was just "teasing" the reporter and the fans and she has already signed Allison? But I am curious that he would leave Lotus to go there right now. The timing seems a bit odd....and Ferrari would be the more likely destination. But then again, maybe he likes a challenge!
