GP2 » Hungary: Driver mini-reshuffle after Frijns exits Hilmer


Robin Frijns has confirmed his exit from GP2 and has been replaced at Hilmer by Adrian Quaife-Hobbs, while Dani Close returns to the series with MP Motorsport.

Shame that this is the reality of the sport today, eventhough Robin shouldn't complain about it too much, cause if he himself didn't have any money behind him he wouldn't have been there at all in the first place either.

Still as a Dutch fan I was/am really hoping he makes it into F1 at a good team, he certainly has the talent and the CV to show for it. 3 championships in a row, winning on his 2nd GP2 feature race...He should be in prime position to land a decent F1 seat, but the facts we need to accept are that talent and a 'normally rich' father (Frijns sr has a company and a couple milli) won't cut it...You need to have a megarich family or a nationality that companies are interested in, and the Dutch nationality isn't one of them.

Really hope he can get back out there in future, he's an amazing talent who deserves so much better. Especially sad that Sauber's new Russian paymasters are putting nationality above talent or experience.
